The Heaven Shop is a novel that takes place in the AIDS-plagued country of Malawi. The story is told through the eyes of Binti, a thirteen-year-old girl whose mother died of AIDS when Binti was seven. She lives with her siblings and father who is dedicated to educating his children by sending them to schools paid for by his earnings as a wooden coffin maker. The story depicts what it is like to fight for survival while growing up in extreme poverty amidst shattered dreams and the threat of AIDS.
