The Same Stuff as Stars

Angel Morgan, almost 12, has to be the grown up and take care of her little brother, as her father is in jail and her mother has deserted her children again. In the past the children have been left alone, put in foster care, moved from place to place, but this time they are left at their great-Grandmother's falling apart home in Vermont. Alone and lonely, she is befriended by a mysterious stranger - who shows her the stars and helps her to hold on to hope - and to the knowledge that she is made of the same stuff as stars. Honor Book Older Children, 2003.
