We Are One: The Story of Bayard Rustin by Larry Dane Brimner, published by Calkins Creek, an imprint of Boyds Mills Press, Inc.   We Are One is the summation of the life of political activist, Bayard Rustin. The book traces the development of Rustin's beliefs from his childhood when he was raised by his Quaker grandmother and Christian grandfather though his journey as a lifelong practitioner of nonviolent activism. In the early fifties he became the key speech writer and a major teacher of Martin Luther King, and eventually became the intellectual designer of the 1963 March on Washington.The author includes Rustin's involvement with the Young Communists League and, in the author's notes at the end of the book, describes the struggles people within the Civil Rights movement had with Rustin's identity as a Gay man.
