2015 JAPA Award Winners

You are invited to an event announcing the winners of the Jane Addams Children’s Book Awards to begin at 11:00am-12:00pm on May 2, 2015 at the Cedarville Historical Society, Cedarville, IL (birthplace and final resting place of Jane Addams).
The program will include a brief discussion of the relationship between Montessori and Addams, an announcement of the awards, a brief presentation by last living pallbearer of Jane Addams, and refreshments. Afterwards people may explore the museum’s exhibits and visit Addams’ grave site.
Cedarville is just outside Freeport, north of Hwy 20 on Hwy 26,
about a 35 minute drive from Rockford
Invited guests: members of WILPF and JACBA participants from Rockford, Madison and Chicago; Northern Illinois Community Foundation (thanks to the Foundation for giving us a grant to purchase books); the press; students who participated in the JACBA Reading Club and their families; the public.
JACBA Reading Club teachers will be invited to make a statement about their participation, connections to Montessori and our philosophy.
Students who participated in the Reading Club will present the winning titles as they unveil enlarged posters of the book covers. Students will give a brief overview of the winning book and the two honor books in each category, and comment on their opinion of the book and how it fits the criteria for the award. Younger students (pre-primary and primary) who wish to do so will help unveil the winning picture books and give a simple statement about the books.
